Eliza B. Graue, 78, of Hendersonville, died April 11, 2012 at the Elizabeth House.

 

Mrs. Graue, the widow of cartoonist F. David Graue, was a resident of Transylvania and Henderson Counties for 33 years. Originally from St. Louis, MO, she graduated from Washington University at the age of 20 after which she had a long career as a teacher in Sarasota, FL.  She earned a Doctorate in Education from the University of Sarasota and authored Is Your Child Gifted? in 1982. She and Dave moved to Brevard in 1979 where she became active in the Republican Party and chaired the United Way of Transylvania County. They retired to Hendersonville where she served on the boards of the Henderson County Symphony Orchestra, Children and Family Resource Center, Department of Social Services, and was appointed by the Governor of NC to the Blue Ridge Community College Board of Trustees.
 
Known affectionately as GG, Eliza is survived locally by her daughter, Karen Dowdy, her children Jordan, Griff and Kelen of Hendersonville, and neice Heather Lovelace of Rutherfordton. She is also survived by her sons, Jeff Graue and his wife Lili of Lexington, KY, Dan Graue and his wife Jennifer of Sarasota, FL, eight grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, she asked that contributions be made on her behalf to Four Seasons Palliative Care.  Internment at her family's gravesite in St. Louis is planned.  Any memories or favorite stories about Eliza would be welcome at rememberingeliza.com
